The Alimbic people were one of the most technologically advanced races in the Metroid Universe. They had long-distance spaceflight, teleportation, inter and extradimensional travel, sophisticated nanotechnology, telepathy, telekinesis, and advanced mechanical, biological and cybernetic engineering. Having been attacked by a powerful enemy, they focused a great deal of resources on military technology, and developed a number of sophisticated weapons systems.
Eventually a powerful, malevolent being called Gorea invaded and began destroying the Alimbic race on every planet they inhabited and spreading chaos throughout the galaxy. To stop what they called "the cancer", Alimbic elders came together and sent it to a formless dimension of antimatter called the Infinity Void. This was done just in time as by then most of the Alimbics were wiped out by Gorea with horrifying speed and the elders were reduced to telepathic entities.
