A cyborg is a cybernetic organism, a being with both organic and visible biomechatronic body parts. Cybernetics is the study of complex artificial intelligence systems often housed inside robotic machines, androids or cyborgs. Mechanical replacements for body parts are called cybernetic implants. Like all cybernetic lifeforms, cyborgs cannot survive without their biological components.
Cyborgs are of biological origin with robotic or mechanical parts meant to extend their capabilities, as opposed to androids which are robotic AI that are made to look and act human. Bionics is the application of biological methods and systems in the engineering of technology, whereas cybernetic implants are used to enhance cyborgs. An example of bionics is an artificial neural network, as this is how a human brain works.
Cybernetic eyes (for example) with artificial retinas will match the visual quality of a real human eye. They will contain electrode arrays with hundreds of megapixels in full color along with wireless capabilities. They will not only provide a cure to blindness for many people, but they also contain further enhancements like embedded cameras, WiFi, augmented reality, night vision, thermal vision, zoom capability, and so on.
