Mars
Olympus Mons

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. It's also called the Red Planet because its surface is covered in iron oxide dust. Mars has two natural satellites that are small and irregular in shape: Phobos and Deimos.

Olympus Mons is a massive shield volcano on Mars, and the tallest mountain in the entire Solar System. Standing at around 16 miles (25 km) high, it’s nearly three times taller than Mount Everest. From space, Olympus Mons looks like an enormous, flat-topped giant, with gentle slopes stretching for hundreds of kilometers. It's also so big, it would cover the entire state of New Mexico.

During its early history, Mars's surface was marked by meteor impacts, valley formation, erosion, and the possible presence of water oceans. Later, volcanic activity and flooding carved immense outflow channels. Now it's a sandy and windy planet. The possibility of past or present life on Mars remains of great scientific interest.

Due to the hostile Venus environment, Mars is looked at for exploration and being one of the likely solutions for a backup of mankind in case of an extinction event. Initially, it would be colonized, and then a base would be set up. Finally, it will be a candidate for terraforming.
