Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck (1858 - 1947) was a German theoretical physicist whose discovery of energy quanta won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918. He was the found of quantum theory, which revolutionized human understanding of atomic and subatomic processes, and formulated the units of the Planck scale which are integral to understanding the fabric of reality and the early stages of the universe.

He supported Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity in 1905, 20 years before it become widely accepted.
