The Elves of Toril, known in their own tongue as Tel'Quessir, are an ancient race in the Forgotten Realms Universe.
They excel in magic, are supremely aware of their surroundings, can see in the dark, and are agile and dexterous creatures. They are long-lived, achieving adulthood at 110 years of age and living for up to 700 and more. Many elves do not sleep, instead finding their rest in a meditative state called reverie or "trance", which was as restful as true sleep but left them aware of their surroundings.
The First Flowering was a period in which the elves split into five major realms and created the Isle of Evermeet. The Age of Humanity marked the decline of the elven empires and the flourishing and expansion of the human empires around the world.
Elves play a central role in Baldur's Gate.
